Prometheus is a thoroughly debated movie from multiple angles, even though we have not even reached its release date yet. This fact can question the impact it is going to have and the true value it shall be accredited with.
For starters, not everyone knows what Prometheus intended to be, namely a cinematic work whose narrative takes place before that of a preexisting work – aka Alien. The notorious director wanted to extend the story by presenting the dawn of Alien. Due to several script rewrites and brain storming and of course, the fear of the director to come up with weak and overused storyline elements, an independent original science fiction story script was born.
The nucleus of the movie is based the eternal question on how human kind was able to achieve such a remarkable evolution in a considerably short time period. Every sign shows that an intervention from the exterior – namely the outer space – was necessary and implicitly took place. Connecting cultures such as the Magdalenian, Mesoamerican and Mesopotamian civilizations, the crew of a spaceship called “Prometheus” is send out in the unknown side of space to discover the origins of mankind. However, the success of this mission becomes irrelevant when the elementary goal becomes to win the fight for the survival of human kind against an extraterrestrial race which seemingly is more advance technologically.
One must admit the effort put in by everybody to increase the credibility of the story to the maximum, starting from the insertion of scientific explanation of the ability for molecular transformation needed to travel faster than the speed of light.
Naturally, a huge part in making the sequel known so widely can be accredited to the perfectly organized viral marketing campaign which had started on the 28th of February 2012 and is still active.
